Beautiful Christmas Trees on Display at West Virginia State Capitol Ahead of Joyful Night Celebration

11/27/2019

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Each year, the State of West Virginia displays two beautifully decorated Christmas trees on the Capitol campus for the holiday season, thanks to generous donations from West Virginia residents. This year’s trees, donated on behalf of the West Virginia Tree Growers Association by David and Rebecca Absher, owners of Absher Christmas Tree Farm in Mt. Hope, West Virginia, include a Canaan Fir and a Norway Spruce, both standing between 25 and 28 feet tall.

The Canaan Fir can be seen on the Lincoln Plaza on the south side of the State Capitol, and the Norway Spruce is located near the stage on the north plaza.

Both trees will be on display during the upcoming Joyful Night Celebration, scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at 6 p.m. Governor Jim Justice and First Lady Cathy Justice will ceremonially light the Canaan Fir during the event. The event is free to the public. More information about Joyful Night will be released next week.

The Abshers planted the trees nearly 30 years ago at their residence in Raleigh County.
