West Virginia Ethics Commission Issues Public Reprimand as Part of Settlement Agreement

4/7/2016
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Ethics Commission today issued a public reprimand as part of a settlement agreement of an ethics Complaint filed against Danny Milam, former Recorder of the Town of Rainelle.

The Commission found on April 7, 2016, that Milam violated the West Virginia Governmental Ethics Act by entering into a subcontractual relationship with a contractor on a project to remove and replace gutters on the town hall building in 2012.  Milam also influenced the town council to hire employees from his private construction company to build a pump house for the town in 2013.  Milam admitted that he was inappropriately involved in the construction contracts because he had a financial interest in the projects.

In addition to the public reprimand, the Conciliation Agreement requires Milam to pay a $2,000 fine and to undergo training on the Ethics Act.
