Ethics Commission Issues Public Reprimand

CHARLESTON – The West Virginia Ethics Commission entered into a Conciliation Agreement with James Hunt, former Police chief of the City of Charleston. The Conciliation Agreement states that Hunt violated the Ethics Act by:  (1) using the number of his city-issued cell phone as the contact number for his business, Hunt Family Construction, LLC, with the West Virginia Department of Labor from July 8, 2020, through at least August 13, 2023; (2) using the number of his city-issued cell phone as the contact number for his position as coach at a middle school; and (3) using his city-issued cell phone to send inappropriate pictures of himself displaying parts of his anatomy undressed or partially undressed.  Hunt has been ordered to never hold public office and to never serve in law enforcement again. The Commission also ordered a public reprimand against Hunt.
