Governor Patrick Morrisey Appoints Brent Wolfingbarger as PEIA Director

Charleston, W.Va – Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey appointed Brent Wolfingbarger as the new Director of the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA).


“With an impressive professional background and deep experience working in West Virginia, I have every confidence in Brent Wolfingbarger to lead PEIA and tackle the challenges currently facing the agency,” said Governor Morrisey.


Brent Wolfingbarger has served as a Senior Deputy Attorney General of West Virginia since 2020 where he provided executive leadership for the State’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. He previously served as the chief ethics prosecutor for the District of Columbia Board of Ethics and Government Accountability. Wolfingbarger worked for Chickasaw Nation Industries, Inc., where he oversaw its Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM) Review Contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), measuring improper payments and producing error rates for all 50 states and DC. He also served as the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Director for the District of Columbia Office of the Inspector General. Wolfingbarger is a Belle, West Virginia native who graduated from DuPont High School and has practiced law in West Virginia for 31 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University before receiving his law degree from the Washington & Lee University School of Law.​
