Gregory Melton Selected to Lead The General Services Division

Cabinet Secretary of Administration Ross Taylor announced March 25,, 2013, the selection of Gregory Melton of Los Alamos, New Mexico, to serve as director of the General Services Division, effective April 1, 2013.

Originally from West Virginia, Melton is charged with overseeing the buildings and grounds at the State Capitol Complex as well as other state-owned buildings throughout West Virginia. Bringing a combination of educational and professional experiences to the job, he recently has served as the Group Leader and Maintenance Manager for the Maintenance and Site Services Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Prior to this position, he served in the United State Air Force in various capacities, including Vice Commander of the 10 Air Base Wing, Commander of the 10 Mission Support Group, and Chief of the Engineering and Construction Division of the Air Force Reserve Command.

The General Services Director is responsible for the care, control and custody of the capitol buildings. The responsibilities include overseeing the maintenance and repair of buildings, renovations, construction of new facilities, environmental testing and asbestos abatement, as well as providing care for the grounds and custodial services. The General Services Division has an annual budget of approximately $73 million.

 “With his various experiences in facility management and leadership, Greg has the qualities and skill set that will prove beneficial in overseeing the multi-faceted and diverse responsibilities of the General Services Division,” said Secretary Taylor. “On behalf of state government, I am pleased to welcome Greg back home to West Virginia. I am confident that his vision and strong leadership will guide this division to continued progress for the benefit of our state citizens and visitors of our state buildings.”

Melton earned a bachelor’s of science degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University and a master of science in engineering management from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio.
