Sara Walker Appointed to Lead Division of Personnel

Cabinet Secretary Robert W. Ferguson, Jr. announced on September 8, 2009, the selection of Sara P. Walker to serve as director of the West Virginia Division of Personnel.

W
ith an impressive background in the field of human resources, Walker most recently served as director of human resources for Jackson Kelly PLLC since 1995. With over 15 years in human resource management in the healthcare and legal executive environments along with an extensive knowledge of personnel training and development, Walker demonstrates excellent leadership and communication skills.

Prior to this position, she served as Education/CQI Coordinator for St. Francis Hospital in Charleston; Human Resources Manager for Medical Facilities of America in Roanoke, VA; and Administrative Assistant to the President, Adjunct Faculty, for West Virginia State University in Institute.

“With her vast experience in human resources, Sara brings to our state government the insight and innovative mindset that we need as we move forward on the initiatives currently underway within the Division of Personnel,” Secretary Ferguson said. “In the midst of our state study on the classification and compensation plans within state government and our strong focus on creating a strategic workforce plan, her efforts will enhance our personnel operations so we may better serve all
West Virginians.”

W
alker is a graduate of King College in Bristol, TN, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history. She later earned her master’s degree in management, with emphasis in employee relations, from the University of West Virginia, College of Graduate Studies (now Marshall University Graduate College).

Walker
replaces Otis Cox, who left the position, effective April 14, 2009.
