Ethics Commission Issues Public Reprimand

1/2/2020

CHARLESTON, W.Va.
– The West Virginia Ethics Commission issued a public reprimand and assessed a $5,000 fine as part of a Conciliation (i.e. settlement) Agreement approved on January 2, 2020.

Larry C. Palmer, Sheriff of Brooke County, admitted that he violated the private gain provision in the West Virginia Governmental Ethics Act when he used his public position to attempt to have Brooke County pay a damage claim that was personal in nature.

Palmer was also ordered to undergo training on the Ethics Act as part of the settlement.

The Conciliation Agreement may be viewed on the Commission’s website at ethics.wv.gov.
