New App Offers Help to Children in Danger

8/5/2014

Having the quickest and most reliable access to contact information for state and federal resources is key for people looking to help children who may be in danger. The West Virginia Children’s Justice Task Force is pleased to introduce its free mobile application, WVHelp, which provides help in an instant to important information.

The app is designed to quickly locate and contact resources throughout the state that deal with victims of abuse with a special emphasis on child maltreatment. Information on the app, which works on devices running iOS or Android operating systems, can be found at http://go.wv.gov/wvhelp.

“We are very excited about this app,“ said Andrea Darr, WV Children’s Justice program manager. “It’s so simple and helpful. It instantly provides the user with phone numbers they would need while working a case of crime, violence or abuse.”

WVHelp was specifically created for points of contact that manage situations where victims, particularly children, experience crime, neglect, or abuse.  Members of law enforcement, Child Protective Services workers, teachers, hospitals, prosecutors and judges now have reliable contact information at their fingertips.  Through a simple and elegant interface, the application provides phone numbers, physical addresses, and fax numbers for county law enforcement, CPS, prosecutors, sheriff’s departments, medical facilities, domestic violence programs, sexual assault programs, child advocacy centers, and behavioral health facilities in each of West Virginia’s 55 counties.  The application also provides contact information for key resources at both the state and federal levels.

This free application allows users to:

  • Get instant updates directly to their phone
  • Look-up contact information for all 55 counties, plus state and federal contacts
  • Create a “favorites list” of frequency contacts
  • Directly dial the given resource

The WV Children’s Justice Task Force, a multi-disciplinary body of public and private agencies and individuals, is committed to the protection of children. The organization’s mission is to identify barriers to the successful resolution of child abuse and neglect issues; and to educate and advocate for change. It is a program under the purview of the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute. The new WVHelp Application was developed for the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute by WV Interactive.
