West Virginia Office of Technology Offers Free Cyber Security Conference

Chief Technology Officer Gale Given announced today that the West Virginia Office of Technology (WVOT) will be offering an Information Security Conference free of charge on Wednesday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which provides the WVOT with an opportunity to encourage public and private sector stakeholders to use best practices for a safe, secure and resilient cyber environment. This year marks the 10th anniversary of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center.

WVOT is committed to raising cyber security awareness throughout the state by working across all levels of government and with the private sector. The conference agenda offers informative sessions, focusing on educating end-users about cybersecurity dangers that exist at work and home. The speakers include:

  • Twenty Critical Cybersecurity Controls

Tony Sager (Director, SANS Institute)

  • Cybersecurity in the News Today

Evan Patterson (Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation)

  • Verizon’s Breach Report

Wade Baker (Managing Principal, Research and Intelligence, Verizon RISK Team)

Those interested must pre-register at the website below and are encouraged to invite others to attend, and make necessary arrangements within their organization to permit attendance. This event will also be available as a live webcast for those unable to attend in person; however, registration is still required. This training has been approved for 3.6 hours of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit for office management.
