West Virginia Office of Technology General Counsel Participates in Prestigious Henry Toll Fellowship

9/9/2022

CHARLESTON, WV – Department of Administration Cabinet Secretary Mark D. Scott is proud to recognize West Virginia Office of Technology (WVOT) General Counsel Jennelle Jones for her recent participation in the Council of State Governments’ (CSG) distinguished Henry Toll Fellowship, a premier leadership development program. Jones was among 48 state government officials from 32 states to be competitively selected as a 2022 Toll Fellow.

“I am continually impressed by our Department of Administration employees who go above and beyond to sharpen their skills and bring new perspectives to their roles in state government,” said Secretary Scott. “Jennelle continually strives to better herself, and through her participation in this program, we know this experience will bring added value to our state government.”

The Fellowship, which brings together individuals from various branches of government and political affiliations, is designed to stimulate personal assessment and growth while providing priceless networking and relationship-building opportunities. Participants attend a five-day, intensive leadership bootcamp that offers unique insights and education on leadership.

“As part of the bootcamp, we learned the skills associated with good leadership – the power of being present and mindful; using your innate leadership style effectively; being community-minded; and working as a team to overcome difficulty,” Jones said. “I learned how I can more effectively communicate in everyday moments all the way up to high-stake situations.”

More than 1,300 individuals have graduated from the Toll Fellowship since its inception in 1986. Graduates of the program include three sitting Supreme Court justices, 10 sitting members of Congress, and five sitting governors.

“We’re all human and bring a richness of unique experience and perspectives to our roles as public servants,” said Jones. “I had a lot of ‘a-ha’ moments. My participation gave me a new perspective on my role both as part of the executive branch and as a member of the leadership team at WVOT. I would encourage anyone who is called to public service and wants to be a better leader to apply.”
